Warp have announced that Fly Lo is giving away the alternative mixes and outtakes from Cosmogramma to download for free to those who have bought the album. This itself isn’t a particularly new concept, except they’ve developed a rather unique (and cool) method of allowing fans to access the tracks:
Using augmented reality technology, some whizz kid called Jeff Crouse has developed an app which scans the album artwork like a barcode when its held up to a webcam, unlocking a download package with the tracks in.
Flying Lotus: “I’m really into old jazz traditions and I felt Cosmogramma was my jazz record in a sense. In that spirit, for anyone who’s bought the album, we’ve made something they can use to get new tracks and alternate takes from the original Cosmogramma sessions as a gift from us. We’re making a big fuss…”
