Jackmode returns to London Bridge this Saturday for the third instalment of their already infamous parties at the Counter Culture Project. Perhaps better known for his work as one half of Zombie Disco Squad, Nat Self Joins the Martin Brothers in Room One. He’ll be celebrating the release of his debut EP on the new Jackmode Music imprint. The EP, ‘Party Whistler’, will be out at the end of April.
We had a chat to the man himself to find out a little more:
Zombie Disco Squad have played at the two previous Jackmode parties at Counter Culture – what makes a Nat Self set different from a ZDS set?
I’m going for something a bit different – still house but more straight-up house, rather than the ZDS sound (house with a twist). My aim is Moody Man meets Mark Farina in Jamie Principle’s house with all of the drugs Nikki Sixx ever did.
What can we expect from your debut release on the Jackmode Music label?
Hard question… house music? Maybe with three olives, shaken and stirred?!
Both yourself and Lucas (Luca Lozano) are doing solo projects at the moment. Do you ever get lonely working on solo material having worked with Lucas for so long?
We are still pushing hard at doing ZDS stuff. I think that once you get known for doing one thing it’s nice to be able to try something else. So we are still doing ZDS stuff a lot. My solo stuff mainly gets made in late-night sessions when I’ve had too much coffee.
WHEN I’M STONED I MISS YOU - NAT SELF EDIT by Jackmode
How does it change your studio dynamic or the way you approach production?
I drink more coffee.
What’s the future for Zombie Disco Squad?
We are working on a new EP and have just finished a remix for Style of Eye. Generally just more of everything really – more music, more tours, more vodka tonics and Jack Daniel’s with Coke.
Do you have any other projects on the go?
A deep house project with another fellow called Hugs and Kisses. We have a couple of ideas down now.
What’s your favourite thing about DJing at Counter Culture?
Cheap drinks, hot girls, fun crowd – what more could you ask for?
What’s been your wildest party of 2011 so far?
The one that led to me having two new scars and a £10,000 bill…
Who should we be paying attention to artist-wise this year?
Maceo Plex; I really like all the Klasse artists. Solo played me some hot new stuff the other day. Pleasurekraft are making me happy at the moment. Oh and also Ben Westbeech.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Eating cheese in a space-age car with a sexy hand model.
