Props to Nick from Tight Knit Music for putting me on to this one. ‘Blackbird’ is a new Action Bronson tune currently being given away for free on the Rubyhornet SoundCloud (coincidentally a cracking Hip Hop blog for any of you heads out there). The track is Bronson’s contribution to ‘Closed Sessions Vol. 2’ which is an album from the independent Chicago label of the same name. Closed Sessions work with emerging and established Hip Hop artists to create original music, as well as short documentaries that delve into the lives of each artist as well as their creative process. Recorded last November and featuring production from Chitown native Thelonius Martin, Bronson’s trademark witty lyrical style is out in force over a boom bap beat that uses a great sample from a German TV series in the 70’s (some proper crate digging from Martin there). This ain’t your average freebie offcut. Get to know.
